Hurricane Ida Update

Monday, November 09, 2009 9:00 a.m. CST

Mandoki Hospitality has been monitoring the progress of Hurricane Ida for the past twenty-four hours. It appears from recent forecast data this morning that Ida is likely to weaken due to dry, cool winds coming in from the northeast, coupled with another front coming in from the west. Ida is projected to make landfall somewhere around the Alabama - Florida state line as a "rain-and-surge" event, going extatropical at or near landfall. However, local officials are projecting strom winds with some hurricane-level gusts as Ida approaches the coastline.

With that forecast in mind, MHI began to take steps to secure the Gulf Shores Plantation property Sunday evening by securing pool furniture and other items that could be easily blown about. MHI will continue securing the property today by moving patio and balcony funiture inside and securing other objects that could be blown around.

Monday, November 09, 2009 3:00 p.m. CST update

MHI continues to monitor and prepare for Tropical Storm Ida, which is projected to make landfall in the early hours Tuesday along the Alabama coast.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from Pascagoula, MS to Destin, FL. Ida is projected to come ashore around 6 a.m. Tuesday then turn east towards the Florida panhandle.

The area is beginning to experience periodic heavy rain squalls, blustery wind and heavy surf. We expect some beach erosion, but do not expect the storm surge to reach the Plantation grounds. Some areas in Orange Beach are being asked to voluntarily evacuate due to likely flooding from rain and surge.Heavy rain and 45 to 60 mph winds with higher gusts are likely as Ida approaches the coast. Tuesday will be a day you wouldn't want to be out and about.

The Plantation is all buttoned-up...patio and balcony furniture has been moved inside, various signage, light trash cans and pool furniture secured, and miscellaneous small items which could become missles stored or tied down.

We do not expect any serious damage from Ida, but there may be some occasional wind-driven wind rain intrustion in some units, depending on how strong the winds are and from what direction they come.

On Tuesday, we will access the condition of the property and will continue to post updates as information becomes available.

Tropical Storm Ida came ashore just across Mobile Pass on Dauphin Island around 2:00 a.m. this morning. Heavy rains preceded its arrival but diminished within a couple of hours of landfall. Surf was heavy along the Fort Morgan Peninsula.

No building damage has been noted at the Plantation. Some small limbs and leaves were blown about and the beach suffered moderate erosion. A strong north wind continues from the backside of Ida, combined with an approaching front from the west. Thus, no patio or balcony furniture will be replaced until winds subside.

This constitutes the final Tropical Storm Ida update.
